Understanding Core Email Metrics
Every successful email program starts with knowing what to measure. EmailMonkey surfaces a set of core metrics automatically for every send — here's what each one means and why it matters.
Open Rate
- What it is: The percentage of delivered emails that were opened at least once.
- Why it matters: A strong open rate signals your subject lines and sender name are resonating with your audience.
- Benchmark: Industry averages typically fall between 20–30% depending on sector.
Click-Through Rate (CTR)
- What it is: The percentage of recipients who clicked at least one link in the email.
- Why it matters: CTR measures content relevance — if people open but don't click, the body copy or CTA may need work.
Bounce Rate
- What it is: The percentage of emails that could not be delivered.
- Why it matters: High bounce rates damage sender reputation. EmailMonkey automatically categorizes bounces as hard (permanent) or soft (temporary).
Unsubscribe Rate
- What it is: The percentage of recipients who opted out after receiving the email.
- Why it matters: A spike here often signals frequency or relevance issues — investigate before your next send.
